BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU (BJJ) IN GUILDFORD

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art and combat sport that focuses on technique, leverage and strategy rather than relying on physical strength or size.

It teaches you how to control an opponent, gain dominant positions, escape difficult situations and apply submissions using a combination of body positioning, timing and technique. Much of BJJ takes place on the ground, where practitioners learn to use movement and leverage to overcome opponents, even when faced with someone bigger or stronger.

BJJ is training in a Kimono (called a Gi) or in Shorts and a Rashguard.

WHY TRAIN BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU?

BJJ is about much more than learning how to fight. It's about developing skills that benefit you both on and off the mats.

1. IMPROVE YOUR FITNESS

BJJ develops cardiovascular fitness, strength, endurance, flexibility, coordination and mobility.

You'll be moving, learning and challenging yourself without even realising how hard you're working.

2. BUILD CONFIDENCE

There's nothing quite like learning a new skill, overcoming a challenge and seeing your progress.

As your abilities develop, so does your confidence. You'll become more comfortable stepping outside your comfort zone and tackling challenges on that mats and in everyday life.

3. LEARN REAL SELF-DEFENCE

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches practical techniques to control, escape and defend yourself in close-contact situations.

Learn how to use leverage, positioning and technique to manage someone who may be bigger or stronger than you.

4. IMPROVE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

Training provides an opportunity to switch off from everyday pressures and focus on the present moment.

BJJ encourages problem-solving, resilience, discipline and patience while giving you a positive outlet for stress and a sense of achievement.
